Review: Why you should think like a team when saving for your retirement

For a lot of people, retirement planning is a team sport.

Unfortunately, it’s incredibly common for folks in the same household to have very different ideas of both what they want out of retirement, and what their retirement will actually look like. It’s never intentional – they just never actually talk about it.

Not to put too fine of a point on it, but this is bad. You need to have these conversations. Everyone involved needs to understand (at least to some degree) where you stand, where you want to go, and how you are going to get there.

These conversations about retirement just aren’t happening, though. And this can mean that both spouses could be in for a shock as retirement gets closer.

Unless you actually have the conversation, you’ll never know that your spouse assumed you would start taking all of those trips that you put off during your career, or they always wanted to retire to some tropical island.

This is part of what a good financial advisor can do for you. We can’t have the conversation ourselves, but we can help you have that conversation – and we know what questions you should be asking.
