What exactly do you do at our company?
As Managing Director of Wealth Management, I serve as lead financial advisor in our New Hampshire office. I listen carefully to clients’ needs, concerns, and objectives. Then, we craft solutions and implement strategies related to retirement planning, charitable giving, tax planning, risk mitigation, estate planning, business succession, etc. I can also ‘nerd out’ when it comes to the tax code and performing tax projections. This has proven invaluable since so much of the planning work we engage in has a tax component embedded in it.
What is your favorite part about working with McLean?
Being surrounded by talented people. Always learning and growing. We have a team meeting every morning that involves a brainstorming session on client cases – it is the best part of the day.
What are 3 words you’d use to describe McLean?
Balanced, creative, exceptional.
What’s a fun fact about you that many people may not know?
I can juggle. I mean, nothing crazy like flaming chainsaws, but I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve. Still trying to figure out a way to monetize this talent, though.
What do you like to do when you aren’t working?
Spending time outdoors with my wife. We love camping, hiking, motorcycling, and lately, e-mountain biking.
Are you a coffee or tea person?
Coffee in the morning, with an occasional cup of tea in the afternoon.
How many different states have you lived in?
Only two: Massachusetts as a young child, then migrated north to New Hampshire.
What’s your favorite book or movie?
As a kid, it was Star Wars. Classic good vs. evil in a sci-fi wrapper. I was just the right age to be smitten by it when it came out in the 1970s. I think I went back to the theater 6 more times to see it – something I had never done before or since! But my dad instilled in me a real appreciation for classic movies from the 30s, 40s, and 50s. One of my favorites is 12 Angry Men (the one from 1957!). Amazing to me that a movie so sparse – basically filmed in one room, with no women in it – could be that gripping!
Early bird or night owl?
Always been a night owl, but as I get older, I’m detecting a shift…
What food have you tried that was the furthest out of your comfort zone?
When visiting some locals in the Bahamas, I was offered some raw conch, basically an uncooked giant sea slug. One word: chewy.
